How Blogs Engage Readers Through “Passive Selling”

Let’s face it, many of us are not really wild about getting on the phone and selling our services. While most of us are experts in the field of our choice, we aren’t always so great at selling our services — and that’s where ‘passive selling’ comes in. It is a perfect way to generate interest in our services without directly selling it to others.

In fact, one of the reasons the social media sites have become so important to business is because it allows people to interact with each other more frequently and to share information. If you do it ‘right,’ you indirectly create interest in the service you offer without coming across as a salesperson. That’s an excellent reason to get a blog started and to generate new blogs on a fairly regular basis. Each time you write about your field of expertise, you are engaging with a virtual audience of up to thousands of people without having to lick or stick a stamp, pay for an ad, or make a sales call!

Blogging, as it is known, can also be a great way to stay on top of your game. Think for a second about your competition: Are they blogging now and positioning themselves to your target audience? Or could you take the lead, perhaps, by taking the initiative to blog on subjects in your area of expertise?

Once you make the decision to get a blog going, I would suggest outlining several topics to write about in advance and then setting deadlines for doing each one. When I write blogs for clients, I typically work on several at the same time. That way, I am already ‘in the mode’ and can generate several fairly quickly, as opposed to having to start the process anew each time.

In my experience, those who write content and keep refreshing it, have a higher level profile on Google, their websites receive more ‘hits,’ and they have a higher standing, PR-wise, in the online community because they have a stronger presence.

If you still don’t want to write, you can always hire a writer to help you and reach these goals with a fairly minimal investment. So, what’s stopping you? Give it a try and you might be surprised at how much you like blogging on topics on which you are already knowledgeable.
